Chevrolet introduced its Vega sub-compact in 1971, and it was the smallest car ever produced by Chevrolet. It’s size was a sign of the times – taxes, gas and insurance prices, and the unemployment rate, were rising – so it was necessary to offer economy that could keep Americans on the road. Chevrolet literature touted its Vega as “The Little Car That Grows on You,” and the ’72 model did just that, “growing” on more than 360,000 car buyers. This 1:18 scale Black die-cast features a hood you can flip forward to an engine compartment that includes flexible wiring and painted fluid reservoirs. The black interior features folding backs on the front bucket seats, and simulated woodgrain accents on the dashboard and door inserts. The plated rims are modeled after five-spoke wheels, and the chassis of this limited-edition replica is serialized 1 of 5,000. Officially licensed by the General Motors Corporation
